The 2023 Edition – What to Expect

The theme this year is ‘Women & War’, a concept passionately envisioned by Artistic Director Rosetta Cucchi. With an eager curiosity to explore the profound implications of this theme within the realm of opera, each of the selected operas brings to the forefront a distinct viewpoint of the challenges women encounter. From conflicts and prejudices to the courageous pursuit of having their voices heard.

Three very different female characters, each fighting for something:

Zoraida in Zoraida di Granata is in a political fight against her destiny.

Olga in L’Aube rouge is struggling to change a nihilistic partner.

Rosetta in La ciociara is fighting for survival for herself and daughter.

The festival also includes three pocket operas, Lunchtime Recitals, the Gala Concert, a Choral Concert with New Dublin Voices, along with a series of Pop-Up Events performed by artists from the Wexford Factory (the Festival’s academy for young Irish singers) and artists from the Festival’s main stage programme.
