Johnstown Castle

The Castle at Johnstown is a gem of gothic revival architecture. Daniel Robertson laid out the castles' stunning gardens between 1844 and 1851 and to this day they retain their early design and beauty. The gardens offer a range of beautiful sculptured walks and lake walks.
An enclosed victorian walled garden and an ornamental garden are treasures not to be missed.

In the ground's centre you'll find a traditional Irish farmyward and courtyard which is also home to the Peacock Tea Room; open all year round, serving a range of speciality coffees and other hot drinks, the tea room provides a warm and welcoming environment for refreshment.

Fittingly Johnstown Castle is also home to the Irish Agricultural Museum. The exhibitions in the museum have been designed to display and explore a history of Irish agricultural life from the turn of the 19th century until the mid-20th century. Staged over two floors and occupying 1,600 square metres, the galleries offer something for everyone and cover all aspects of farming life from transport and farm machinery to farm crafts and furniture and is a must see for any family.
